Swords

Practice swords are a tool of our study. They can break and are subject to wear and tear over time. Steel used in practice swords (federschwert) is subject to rust and tarnishing and must be maintained. No sword is perfect for everyone, and no practice sword is perfect for all types of fencing or for your particular style. Buy with care and with research- your club-mates own a variety of swords for you to sample in class.

Purpleheart Armoury offers a wide array of Regenyei, VB, and Ensifer feders for longsword sparring. Techniques feders are only recommended for technique drilling, and are generally difficult to use safely in sparring.

Regenyei- Standard and Short models

VB- We recommend the Meyer feathersword, the 48" medium flex. Some of their models are too stiff and are not recommended.

Ensifer- Kron, Corona, and Redd models are all acceptable.

SoCal Swords sells a selection of Ensifer feder: Kron, Corona, and Redd in multiple lengths. They also sell Blackfencer feders.

American maker of sharp and practice swords. We recommend the Albion Meyer as a practice feder, but the supply is limited and we recommend buying one in person at an event if available.
