Jackets
Information for Practitioners:
Fencing Jackets are composed of multiple layers of fabric, with a Newton-rated pierce resistant layer on top to protect the fencer. Jackets come in several Newton weights. 350 N is the baseline requirement for most sword-fighting activities, and most items carry this minimum in the top layer. Jackets come in a variety of padding levels. Newton-resistance and padding level are not directly correlated; Jackets with a higher Newton rating can have lower levels of padding based on it's style. Jackets must be measured for carefully; a fencer may often require a custom size if they do not fit onto the size charts posted. Please talk to your instructors about finding an appropriate jacket for your HEMA practice.
